Here is how to perform the sequence for maximum effect. Start with the DSG Cottontail sound on low (6-10) volume. Let the sound play continuously for two minutes. Increase the sound volume to mid range (20-22) for three more minutes. That’s five total minutes of DSG Cottontail. Lower the volume on the DSG and switch to Baby Cottontail. As before, play continuously at low volume for two minutes and raise volume to mid/high volume (24-30) for three minutes. That’s five total minutes of baby cottontail If nothing has shown up by now, it’s time to go the “saving grace”… the Gray Fox distress! This sound is best played loud. The desperation of a gray fox in trouble is best replicated at mid to high volume. Play this sound non-stop for 5 minutes. The entire sequence takes 15 minutes to perform. Many hunters believe that this is ample to spend at a stand. For hunters who like to stick around longer, allow for a few minutes of silence and simply repeat the sequence. Is this calling setup for fox only or coyotes too? Seems a little short for the coyotes.

It would be a variation. The gray fox distress is the definitive closer for this infamous sequence!

Do you have any success in the afternoon or is it mostly just mornings and evenings/night

In NY, I never hunt prior to the final hour before dusk. There are guys on here who do have succcess at 2 PM, however.

Why don't you hunt that hour? Are you are more geared for night hunting and would rather wait till its dark? I mainly hunt wooded areas and feel like I have a better chance of seeing something when its still light out. Is waiting till dark more of a farmland tactic?
